Dental Examination

Preventive treatment

  • Preventive dental treatments involve instruction, treatment, and the practice of keeping a proper oral hygiene routine. Preventative care is crucial for having healthy teeth and an attractive smile. The procedures are aimed at preventing cavities, enamel wear, and gingivitis (gum diseases).

Periodontal treatment

Periodontal therapy includes both surgical and non-surgical techniques to restore health to the tissues that support the teeth (gums and bone) and prevent tooth loss.
It includes:

  • Scaling and polishing to remove plaque, calculus (tartar) and bacteria
  • Root planning
  • Flap surgery
  • Pocket treatment
  • Diode laser treatment

Root Canal Therapy (RCT)

  • A more radical treatment to decayed teeth is RCT. Root canal therapy is necessary when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. In order to save the tooth for its function of chewing or aesthetics, the pulp which is the living tissue inside the tooth (nerves, vessels) affected by decay and infection is removed and the canal/space filled with special, medicated, dental materials, which restore the tooth to its full function.
  • RCT is a precise procedure that require careful handling, since it is the base for any type of restoration such as Fillings or Crowns.

Restorations

  • Tooth coloured materials (composite resin and Glass ionomer cement) are permanent filling materials for both anterior and posterior teeth commonly of choice nowadays.
  • Conventional amalgam is also used for filling posterior teeth.
  • Temporary fillings by various cements to relieve symptoms before permanent restorations are placed are also commonly used.

Orthodontic Treatment

A speciality/branch of dentistry dealing with development of teeth, jaws and facial structures. Prevention and treatment of malocclusion/bad formation when teeth meet during mouth closing. Gum Disease Treatment

Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums due to plaque (food remains and bacteria) on teeth near the gum.

  • Regular professional cleaning is recommended and instructions on improving daily oral hygiene habits. Periodontitis is inflammation of the gums, ligaments and bones structures supporting the teeth. The outcome of neglected periodontal disease is tooth loss, bone resorption and a depressed mouth morphology. A special periodontal cleaning called scaling and root planning (deep cleaning) to remove calculi by hand or ultrasonic scalers is usually recommended.
